Border Collie

This breed has chosen as a most intelligent dog by most of canine organizations. Even there is a category in agility competitions ABC ( anything but border collies) because of their high success in competitions and also in other competitions such as frisbee catching ( Disc Dog) and sheepdog trials and more. They have excellent acrobatic skills which gives them success in jumping obstacles. Also can be useful for drug detection dog, police dog or rescue dog.

They are very highly sensitive to praise and very high trainability dogs.

Border collies are medium size dogs and herding dogs. They are very good in herding. Border Collie is originally from Scotland. They produced first near Scotland-England border.

Border collie's are highly energetic dogs. You need a big yard if you want to have one of them. They are not suitable for apartment life. They are very active dogs so they can damage your households. To tie them at backyard will not work neither. You can see them never stopping and running around, jumping around. Because their characteristic like that and they will be happier in this condition. Only physical exercise is not enough for this clever and industrious breed. They will want to work and they must use the body and mind. They are fast and agile, tireless energy cubes dogs.

They need brushing and bathing. They have moderate hair fall condition. Grooming is considerably medium level i can say. They can get easily tick, flea, lice because they like to playing around, active and outdoor dogs. They can bite kids sometimes because of their herding instinct like testing a sheep other than that they are good with kids.

Common health issues are hip dysplasia, epilepsy, eye anomaly, deafness, allergic to insect bites like most of the dogs. So yes they are healthy dogs mostly.

Similar but more calmer dogs to this breed are Australian Shepherd Dog and Shetland Shepherd ( Sheltie ). If you can not cope with Border Collie you should choose those two breeds.
