Chow Chow

Chow Chow or Chinese Lion is very distinguished dog by appearance but Chow Chow also have some other specific characteristics. Chow Chow has black tongue  and straight back legs which looks like they walking like on a straight rope.

Their color usually cream tones, brown, reddish but can be black and white too.

Chow Chow's origin is China. It is not clear when first they appeared. Chow Chows have 2 types. One long and rough haired and one considerably short and smooth haired.

Chow Chow can be suitable in apartments if enough exercise given. A small garden also can be enough. They are sensitive to heat. If necessary Cho Chow can live outside too.

They can get lazy easily. So you need to put some exercise on him time to time. It can be short walks. They also need regular grooming for their hairs. Otherwise their hair will not look good and straight. This breed in seasons can shed a lot. Their underlayer fur need good grooming. You can use dry shampoos for that.

Chow Chows generally calm dogs but can be very stubborn and dominant sometimes.  Serious, stubborn and free temper can be seen. They usually attach one person and protective against others. They can be seen distant to other family members but they are loyal to them. They are little bit dominant so they need dominant owners. The owners must be natural, calm, consistent. With this kind of owner they can find their real character. You should not expect too much obedience from them.  They are naturally stubborn and has specific characters from birth. They can learn. They are trainable but commands must have meanings. They should know it. They should know there is purpose of commands. You must be consistent always.

Some experts claims short haired ones more trainable and active. In spite of their unruly temper, in fact they are calm, polite and patient breed. They can show dominance to other dogs. Chow Chow is good with kids. Most of them will not like collars and leashes. If they grown with cats it will also not be a problem. When they are young (2-4 old) must be socialized well to be not very dominant and bad behavior or over protective. From the beginning Chow Chow need consistent training. Their character depends on it .

In China they used for protection and dragging carts. Also for their meat and fur. Some says this sad past made Chow Chows character like this only obedient to one owner and withdrawn. Maybe that is why they are like not caring much and withdrawn who knows. But they can be very good family dogs if trained very well.

Their structure looks like old dog fossils from millions years ago.Chow Chow knowns in China for thousands years as watcher, cart dragger, as protector of ships,...At past Chow Chow used in wolf, patridge hunts also as cart dragging dog. Chow Chows fur used to make jackets. This breeds meats are a food type in China even now. This beautiful breed Chow Chow brought to England in end of 1800s.  Their name probably came from a term used in English for the anything from Asia 'chow-chow'. Chow Chow is popular companion dog in America now in spite of their protection and watch dog features..

Yudisthira Swarga Organization

Yudisthira Swarga animal foundation in Bali. Yudisthira is first foundation founded in Bali for street dogs in 1998.

In Bali there are too many street dogs and because of influences of foreigners and tourism an epidemic problem entered this island. Yudisthira also took its part to help to solve this and other problems about street dogs.

Many people try to help street dogs but usually they do not know where to go. You can not go to clinics or practitioners because it will be not free of charge naturally. So where to go. I suggest you to bring that dog or cat you found on streets to foundation. There are other foundations similar to Yudisthira but I suggest you apply to this one because of some reason.

Pasar Burung - Bird Market Bali

There is a place in Bali namely Bird Market. This place is like a market for pets. You can find almost all small animals like dogs, cats, birds, fishes, monkeys, turtles, parrots etc.. Also products such as kennels, carriers, cages, foods, traditional cages such as bamboo made cages etc..

I found Pasar Burung is little bit filthy place and animals condition there is heart wrenching. They put dogs and cats in very small and dirty cages. Most of them probably do not have any vaccine or fake vaccine labels in their books.

So i am not sure if i recommend you to buy pets from there. Because any animal you buy from there will means you support them to continue it. I hope they will fix it soon. Or if you think ok i just save one of them from there yeah go for it.

There are also many cases about foundations and foreigners so i do not want to talk about this more. Because when people read such things they interpret it strangely and generalize things and it cause put a bad reputation on a nation which i do not like. I am personally against to sell animals. It is very deep topic anyway. It is just an option if you looking for an animal to buy.

How to find it? It is inside Denpasar which is not very touristic place if you compare with coasts of Bali. On Jalan Veteran ( jalan means road or street in Indonesian) but let me tell you the roads around that area mostly one way and you can hardly see one way sign.

Siberian Husky

Siberian Husky originally from Siberia, Russia. Siberian Husky is a popular dog breed. Mostly people mix up with Alaskan Malamute and Husky. In fact it is easy to distinguish. Easier way to distinguish them; Malamutes are usually thicker (legs and body) than Huskies. But both of them are members of working dog group. Siberian Husky is middle sized dog. Siberian Huskies also looks like wolves very much. They used as a draft (sled dog)mostly to drag carts for many years. Siberian Husky' temperament is very lovely but they are stubborn dogs. Mostly they are black colored with white lower body but they can be in different colors. Pure white single color or brown instead of black also common in Huskies. And other distinguishable mark is their eyes usually ocean blue color but it can be also different colors which called 'heterochromia' this can be seen in some cat breeds too. Both eyes can be different colors too. People sometimes call them with name 'husky' like i do here but there are different type of huskies. Husky is a type of dog actually. So in fact it is a wrong name. They get along good with kids and they are family dogs but little bit stubborn dogs and can be naughty sometimes. In fact they get along good with other dogs and animals too except rats, birds etc.. because they try to hunt them. Quite energetic dogs like most of working dogs. So they will need exercise and big yard. They have double coated but thick double coat. They have moderate moulting and need brushing time to time. In 1905-1908 they brought to Alaska and spread to entire world from there it said.

Vet in Bali

Ok we live in Bali.That is nice and we have pets.Where should we go for veterinary care in Bali? Or the question is can we find reliable doctors here?The answer is yes if you seek for enough.

In Bali veterinarians practicing a lot but what i know is most of doctors has not enough experience and knowledge because of their educational system has some problems.Like curriculum out of date and lack of practice during study etc.Also some other issues.Like not very strict regulations.So you can see sometimes (dokter hewan) signs.Those signs mostly new graduated not experienced and lack of facilities places.Dramatic part of issue is they do not use advanced once referral (like hospitals,clinics,universities) mostly,what does it mean referral? Referral means if a doctor or medical institute has no capability ,knowledge or facilities they will apply to help from who has that. which is must be ,ethically.But there are also big clinics around 5 of them plus foundations (about 5 of them and almost all of them own by foreigners but i do not recommend you to go there,because medical institutions must own by doctors at least but those are not and i do not think in the world foundations work properly and help something,and also i know one of them got responsibility from government for rabies but rabies still ongoing in island for 3 and half years right now.While they have a lot of donations, and when you ask them come to pick up a street dog they do not come or when you want to adopt a street dog from them they try to force you to pay around 200 $ which suppose to be free.I think you understood what i meant.).Anyway.Those 5 clinics i can say quiet good.Especially one of them Bali Vet Clinic, you can leave your pet there without any doubt of any corruption or any hesitate i guarantee you.The person who run this clinic is oversea graduated and very good doctor and very idealistic person.People can say it is expensive there in Indonesia conditions but not.Hospitals of course expensive all over the world.Because all over the world they use same equipments and medicines and prices of them same in everywhere.You have to be careful if a doc. charge you cheap especially places like Indonesia.The rest of 5 also good but this one among them also well known person.What i witnessed most of the time those other 4 clinic use this place especially owners itself as referral a lot.One of other one is PhD degree from U.S.(which is only PhD. as far i know) but very old now.So I hope I helped you little bit about with this brief writing.Feel free to comment.
