Anatolian Shepherd Dog-Kangal

Turkey' only recognized dog breed is this breed "Anatolian Shepherd Dog". They call it Kangal, Sivas Kangal ( this name come from the city which they said their origin is this city "Sivas") or Karabas too. Kangals are big dogs like St. Bernard but more athletic than them. In spite of their scary appearance they are really lovely dogs and no problem with family and kids as long as you are not a stranger.  Because they are good watch dogs and not like strangers around.

They are mostly white or cream colors with black mask on their faces. You can distinguish them by their size mostly. For a dog quite big and muscular body type which can reach even 90 cm shoulder height. So that means yes you need a lot of food budget. Also you need a big garden with fences.

They exporting them to Africa for herding and guarding herds against lions. Quite courageous dogs even can dare to fight with lions. You can choose Kangal as a guard dog. Maybe the best choice for a guard dog and highly loyal. In spite of  all of those they are not very very popular breed all over the world.
